(Athens, TN., June 26, 2009) The Hiwassee Chapter of the American Red Cross has seen an increase in residents needing assistance. A total of 4 families have been given assistance in this past week with Red Cross volunteers going out on calls at all hours of the day. “Most families have no idea Red Cross provides these services until they need them.
The Red Cross has assisted over 70 local families in the last year. Red Cross volunteers are going out on calls at all hours. These services can only be provided through the support of volunteerism and financial donations from the community.
The local American Red Cross Chapter is asking for donations to help fund single family disaster relief operations for McMinn and Meigs Counties. “Without the support from our local community we would not have been able to provide the services needed to those who have been affected by house fires in the community,” said Julia Wright, Executive Director of the Hiwassee Chapter. “Donations for this and other local disasters can be dropped off or mailed to our office at 113 Madison Avenue, Athens, TN 37303 or P.O. Box 2314 Cleveland, TN 37320. You can also make a donation with a credit card by contacting our office at 423-472-1595.”
